Our agreement with the City of Wilmington requires a 6 hour time limit. That means all runners need to be finished by 1PM. Marathoners who expect to finish in longer than six hours may take our early start at 6:15 am. More info on the early start below.
Yes, you may switch race distances as long as the fields are not filled. However, if the entry fee of your new race is less than originally paid, there will be no refund of the registration fee. You may upgrade to the marathon from the half by paying the fee differential using the MANAGE MY REGISTRATION link.
I’ve never understood why it ends up costing to defer. Could you explain the rationale for the extra $25 charge? Several reasons: we’ve counted you in our orders for shirts, medals, bags, etc – things that are ordered well in advance. And it covers our costs of making the adjustments and retaining the records.
We do not allow transfers of your bib.
Our agreement with the City of Wilmington requires a 6 hour time limit. Marathoners who expect to finish in longer than six hours may take our early start at 6:15 am. There is no limit for the half marathon – the same 6 hour deadline would apply. The early start is not for runners who merely wish to finish early – as you will be required to proceed at no faster than a 15 min pace for the first three miles. Email us for details.
We currently do not actively support pacers but will not prohibit unofficial pacers from promoting their involvement. We take no responsibility for their actions. We do place Pace (starting) signs along the Start line to facilitate a smooth start and we encourage participants to line up according to their expected pace. (LOOK FOR OFFICIAL PACERS IN 2018!)
Relay team members are welcome to run together in pairs or all together all at once. Each team member running together will be scored according to the team member wearing the timing chip. These teams are not eligible for awards. Please do let us know, so that we may adjust the scoring and results. Email us for details.
For the first time, Relay team members will receive finisher medal. Medals will be awarded when you finish your leg of the race, either in the exchange zone or, if running leg 4, at the finish line.
With the addition of the 5k to this year’s event, we were able to provide participants a short distance race to satisfy runners of all abilities. As you can imagine, the 8-person relay involved a lot of logistics to organize and coordinate. We hope those who have traditionally done the 8-person relay will chose to do the 4-person relay and/or the 5k this year.
The marathon and half marathon start together at 7:00 am SHARP. The relay marathons start immediately after these fields clear the starting line.
Race Day packet pick up is limited to the first 200 runners who register in advance for this convenience. This service will be available from 5:30 – 6:15am. If you are in need of Sunday Bib Pick Up, please Register HERE now as space is limited.
Remember too that this year we will have off site pick up starting Tuesday is various locations. Learn More on our packet pick up page.
Tubman Park is located on Rosa Parks Drive on the Wilmington Riverfront adjacent to the Wilmington AMTRAK station. You may access the park via Exit 6 (MLK Boulevard) from I-95. The intersecting streets are S. Market Street and S. French Street. The Riverfront Market is across the street.
You cannot park at Tubman Park as the lots are reserved for official use. There is plenty of free parking within walking distance to the park. There are also several pay garages within walking distance to the park. More information is available on the Travel & Accommodations page
Unfortunately, the small size of Tubman Park requires us, for the safety and comfort of all concerned, to restrict open tents or picnicking on the event footprint. Therefore, there is to be NO tents or outside food at Tubman Park without the express written permission of the event organizers. A very small number of team tents will be available at no cost, however, please be advised that demand for these locations far outweighs supply! To request consideration for a tailgating spot, please email us. Decisions will be made partly on the size of the group; partly on when the request is received; and partly on the basis of your group’s connection to the event with beneficiaries, volunteer, and participant groups receiving priority.
We are excited to be partnering with Team Travel Source for hotel accommodations! Team Travel Source has secured the best hotel rooms with the lowest rates for the Delaware Running Festival. VISIT THIS LINK.
No. We tried a pasta party for several years with mixed success.
The course is mostly flat and fast. The hills are not severe; the most significant hill climbs 180 feet over a one-mile distance between Miles 6-7. Of course, you get to come down the same hills four miles later on the way back. Yes, the marathoners do these hills twice.
The food inside the Hospitality Tent is for the Runner’s Only! Food will be available to runners after they cross the Finish Line at the Runner’s Hospitality Tent. This area will be stocked with bottled water, Gatorade, fruit, granola bars, Herr’s snacks and the ever popular chocolate milk! Runners will also be treated to complimentary food from Season’s Pizza, soft pretzels and ice cream sandwiches.
In addition these items will be available to the general public for a small cost.
We have water stations roughly every 1.5 miles. Each water station has water and Gatorade and is staffed by volunteers. There are portable toilets at or near each water station. The 8, 14, and 18 Mile aid stations have snacks. Water stations will also have a basic first aid kit for self-service needs.
All portable toilets are located at the AMTRAK end of the park, at the back end of the S. French Street surface parking lot. There are restrooms in the AMTRAK station, at the Riverfront Market and in the Shipyard Shops. On the course, there are port o pots at or near every water station.
As a small marathon, we do not have a large security risk. There will be uniformed police and K-9 units at the event. We encourage you to use clear bags at the runner bag check-in located in Tubman Park. Unattended bags or packages will be confiscated. Please report all suspicious activity to a race official or public safety personnel.
