2022 Medal Design & Hidden Details Released

DELAWARE RUNNING FESTIVAL RELEASES MEDAL DESIGN FOR 2022 RACE

Corrigan Sports Aims to Celebrate the Participant’s Entire Journey and Those Who Helped Them Get to the Starting Line

A tradition that started in 2020 continues this year with finishers of the Delaware Running Festival receiving a medal that contains a removable Inspiration Coin.  Participants are encouraged to keep their medal for themselves and share the magnetic coin with some who inspired them along their Delaware RunFest journey. Past participants have shared their coin with a training partner, a mentor, a friend or family member.

“We know it takes a lot of commitment from the participants and their support group to get them to race day, said Lee Corrigan, President of Corrigan Sports.  This is a small way to celebrate your entire journey and those who help you get there.”

The idea behind the design was inspired by long time Corrigan Sports supporter Sid Busch.  Sid is Navy veteran and runs selflessly on behalf of fallen soldiers.  Sid presents the medal he earns to the soldier’s family. Further there are long-honored military traditions where Challenge coins are shared and traded among units.   Our Delaware medal melds these two concepts together.

In concept, the medal is the participant’s to keep and display proudly.  The Inspiration Coin is meant to be paid forward to a person or group who helped inspire the participant to achieve their life goals, such as running the race.

The 2022 Delaware Running Festival will be held April 24. In Wilmington, Del.  The race offers a marathon, half-marathon, 5k and, for the first time, a 10k.  This race is one of the few opportunities for aspiring members of the various 50-State running clubs to run in Delaware.  Registration is open now.

Race Day COVID Update & Restriction Changes

We have been able to update some of our COVID protocols to align with the current state, local and CDC guidelines.  The new policies are as follows.  Our permitted COVID mitigation protocol requires some safety steps to help protect those not yet vaccinated.

For the safety of our unvaccinated participants, runners should consider:

  • Wearing a mask in all gathering areas such as at packet pickup, before crossing the start line or after crossing the finish line.
  • Have a mask in their possession while participating in the race and putting it on when running in large groups of unknown runners along the course or while using a refill station.

Runners will be required to:

  • Remain socially distanced a minimum of 3 ft apart while waiting with your wave at the start of the race. The wave start will help with social distancing early in the race.
  • Carry their own water bottle during the race. We will offer refill stations (water only) along the route with touchless spouts.

In addition, the following policies will be implemented:

  • Spectators will be asked to remain socially distanced while they cheer you on and we also ask them to consider wearing a mask when approaching unknown groups of people.
  • Hand sanitizer and disinfectant will be strategically placed in and around the event facilities.
  • We will have limited post-race festivities with no awards ceremony or live band. We ask that you remain socially distanced from unknown groups while you enjoy your two post-race beers and consider wearing a mask while shopping in our merchandise tent.

If you have not already done so, please consider registering for the live Delaware Running Festival!

May 15 Update

With the CDC’s announcement that those fully vaccinated are no longer required to wear masks or socially distance, we are hopeful that we can update our mitigation policies on masks, spectators and post-race gathering.  We are currently checking with the local health officials to see what this recommended guideline means for our event.  We will report back as soon as we have more information.  In the meantime, please consider registering if you have not already.  And please get vaccinated so that we can all resume racing!

LIVE Race Is Approved!

THE DELAWARE RUN FEST IS ON!

We have received confirmation that our permit for the Delaware Running Festival has been approved for June 12 & 13!  We are so excited to be able to offer a live race this year and we cannot wait to host you once again!

MAY 15 UPDATE: With the CDC’s announcement that those fully vaccinated are no longer required to wear masks or socially distance, we are hopeful that we can update our mitigation policies on masks, spectators and post-race gathering.  We are currently checking with the local health officials to see what this recommended guideline means for our event.  We will report back as soon as we have more information.  In the meantime, please consider registering if you have not already.  And please get vaccinated so that we can all resume racing!

Our permit requires certain COVID mitigation steps.  More details will be provided in the Runner Handbook to be released at a later date but in general, runners will be required to:

  • Wear a mask and remain socially distanced in all gathering areas such as at packet pickup, before crossing the start line or after crossing the finish line.
  • The marathon, half-marathon and team relay race start time has been moved to 6:30am to allow for our wave start. Individual start times will be based on the number of participants and their pace. These will be released race week.  Our plan is to get as many runners across the line as quickly as possible while keeping within our permitted levels.
  • The 5K and kids fun run will take place on Saturday evening. We are awaiting final approval of our start time but have targeted 5pm in our proposal.  A formal announcement should be expected in the coming days.
  • Masks ARE NOT required to be worn on the course. We do ask that you carry one and use them at the water refill stations and if you encounter a large group of runners for an extended period. (Passing a group without a mask is fine.)
  • Runners will carry their own water bottle during the race. We will offer refill stations (water only) along the route with touchless spouts.
  • Dogfish Head Brewery will be on site and will provide each finisher with one cold beer to celebrate your accomplishment. (Must be 21 or over and show your ID).
  • Spectators are currently not permitted on the Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park premises. However, there are 26 miles on the route where fans can socially distance and cheer their loved ones.  We are hopeful that this policy can be updated prior to race day.

In addition, the following policies will be implemented:

  • Hand sanitizer and disinfectant will be strategically placed in and around the event facilities.
  • Bottled water and bottled Gatorade along with limited pre-packaged snacks will be distributed post-race.
  • Limited post-race festivities with no awards ceremony or live band.

Stay tuned for more specific details on procedures and policies.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact [email protected].  We will release more specific details as we approach race day.  If you need to make changes to your registration, you can learn more HERE.

Rest assured that Corrigan Sports will conduct an enjoyable, safe and entertaining race experience based within the limits that are required by the city.  We are so excited to be hosting live races again!

New Date: June 12 & 13

Delaware Running Festival Postponed Target Date June 12 & 13, 2021

Baltimore, MD (March 30, 2021) — Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) announced today the 2021 Delaware Running will be postponed. The new target date is June 12 & 13.

After meeting with representatives from the mayor’s office, health department, and the River Front Development, the group decided that at this time rescheduling the event was the safest and best resolution.

We were hopeful that things would turn around with the deployment of vaccines and other metrics but at this time, the city entities are not yet comfortable issuing a permit. Just this week, the Governor updated the outdoor capacity policy and further opened vaccine access so things are moving in the right direction.

Of course, metrics will need to continue to progress before our permit will officially be approved for the agreed upon target date. At this time, the mayor’s office could not put a timetable on the approval. We will continue to work with the city and keep our participants informed with updates and changes. As always, runner safety remains a top priority.

Our mitigation plan will comply with the city’s public health protocols that are in place for outdoor activities. Please be aware that if the event does occur on June 12 & 13 race logistics will be modified to fit state & local health regulations. We will continue to communicate with the health regulators and await their future guidance.

We hope that those who are already registered will plan to join us on our new target date. That said, we understand that the new date may not fit into your schedule. With that in mind, here are your options:

It is our hope that these options will satisfy every runner. Our staff has worked diligently with city services and key vendors to avoid canceling this year’s running festival. The day is too important to the Wilmington community and will continue to do everything within our means to make it still happen.

Please be safe.
