The course maps for the new Delaware Running Festival courses are here!  As announced earlier, the marathon and half-marathon courses will follow much of the past route for the first 13.1 miles, visiting all the same scenic parts of Downtown Wilmington.  However, the second half of the marathon will now traverse the newly completed Jack Markell Trail from the Riverfront area to New Castle Elementary School and back.   This change eliminates the double loop course of previous years giving the marathon runners some new scenery to scope out during their foot tour.

We are pretty sure marathoners are going to really enjoy the new route but we are 100% sure that there will be a new course record set at this year’s Delaware Marathon so train hard!!

The biggest change comes for the relay runners who will now run the entire marathon course and meet their teammates at 3 different exchange points along the route.  Details on the distances of each leg and the locations of the exchange points are posted on the Team Relay page of the website.

The 5K will use the same Riverfront course from last year but in 2019 will be run on Sunday, the same day as the full, half and team relay, adding to the excitement of race day.

We are thrilled to bring this new feature of Wilmington’s Riverfront as a highlight of our new marathon course. The Jack A. Markell Trail makes a long-awaited connection between the Wilmington Riverfront and New Castle along an off-road pathway consisting of elevated boardwalk and paved pathways. It will allow an entirely different perspective of the riverfront for our participants.
