Corrigan Sports is proud to be the new management team for the Delaware Marathon Running Festival.  We are extremely excited to be part of the fabulous event that we have watched prosper over the years.  We are honored Wayne Kursh thought highly enough about us to allow CSE to continue the great tradition that he built.  If you did not read the initial announcement, you can do so HERE.

Wayne will stay on staff as a consultant and the Races2Run management team is working with CSE for a smooth transition. Not much will change in the first year as we learn more about the event but we will be adding some CSE touches to make the event the best it can be.

Corrigan Sports has been putting on running events since 2001 when we started the Baltimore Running Festival.  We are not a big corporate event company owned by investors.  We have one owner and 25 employees who specialize in putting on fun, family oriented events.  We have tons of experience and pride ourselves in listening to our participants to improve the events.  In fact, when we started the Baltimore Running Festival 15 years ago, we were one of the first events to use a post-race survey to get runner feedback– now an industry standard.

This is the first of three pre-race emails you will receive.  Please read the important info below!  

A second pre-race email with race arrival and parking information will be sent on May 3; a final weather related email will be sent on May 5.   

We will have 450 marathon runners, 1050 Half Marathoners and 950 relay team runners in our thirteenth annual May 8, 2016 Discover Bank Delaware Marathon Running Festival.  All events take place at Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park on the Wilmington Riverfront.  Look for our large tents and banners in the park 

The Participant Lists as of April 30 will be on the website at www.delawaremarathon.org under 2016 Participants.  Please look up and write down your race number before race weekend!.

Packet Pickup officially opens Saturday, May 7 at 9:30 am and continues until 6:00 pmWe very strongly suggest you come on Saturday to pick up your race packet or send someone else to get your packet. We simply cannot process a large number of runners on Sunday, although we will reopen packet pickup on race day at 5:30 a.m. .  

Relay Teams: we release ALL 4 or ALL 8 race packets to the first member of your team that arrives at Packet Pickup.  We do not release individual relay packets. 

All Runner SWAG includes a gender specific tech shirt from Expert Brand; a cinch bag from Horizon Services, and a pint glass from NKS Distributors.  Marathoners and Half Marathoners will also receive a card which will allow them to obtain a Head Sweats runner’s hat from Discover Bank at their tent.   Also, if you show your Discover card anytime on race weekend at the Discover tent, you will receive a special cobranded premium (magnet or door hanger).  Your will also be asked to wear a wristband, which will be your entry to the hospitality tent and beer garden.   

NOVA Timing Systems will be providing athlete tracking for the Full and Half Marathon.  Athletes and spectators can sign up to receive email and text message updates as well as Facebook and Twitter posts every time a runner passes a timing point.  Sign-up will open on Wednesday, May 4th on the Timing & Scoring page on the Delaware Marathon website.  During the race live results will also be streamed to the website so you can follow any participant in real time.  Results kiosks will also be immediately available after you finish the event, so that you may look up your time.  The NOVA Tent will be located just outside the Main tent.

If you think you might win an Age Group or Overall award, please come into the Main Tent after the race to collect your award beginning at :8:45 am.  We will give out a total of 275 awards between our three races!  Note that there is no official awards presentation  

Please plan to bring your “used but not abused” athletic shoes to our Vendor Tent.  The More Foundation helps to adopt African families by providing them with ¼ acre of farm land, 100 trees, livestock, wells and irrigation systems AND every 150 shoes saves 12 acres of rainforest, due to sustainable farming!  Save acres of rainforest, irrigate 100s of village farms in Africa and help a family gain financial stability by donating your old running shoes!  For more information click More Foundation

Got 2 Many T’s? Of course you do!  The Delaware Ministry of Caring would love to relieve you of your surplus.  They give them to homeless Delawareans who visit their Samaritan Outreach Center for a shower and a change of clothes. Your extra tee shirt will go to someone truly in need.  So bring your extra tee shirts to the Delaware Marathon and deposit them in the “2 Many T’s” boxes.  Visit www.ministryofcaring.org or email [email protected] for more information.

Please plan to visit the FranksWine Champagne Tent for a complementary post race glass of champagne!   Also, your hospitality wristband will entitle you to 4 beers from our Michelob Ultra / Shock Top Beer Garden.  Your post race meal will feature BBQ bourbon pulled pork, chicken, or burger sliders, pasta salad and fresh fruit from 2 Fat Guys Catering; Seasons Pizza; Bananas from Shop Rite; soft pretzels from the Pretzel Boys; Herrs Snacks, Hy Point Dairy Farms chocolate milk; Canada Dry beverages; Vitamin Water and Smart Water.      

Mowi Wowi will be selling their smoothies at the race and providing us with early morning coffee service.      

Ken Shelton Photography will be on site to take the official runner photos at the Delaware Marathon.  Please take a moment to pre-register your bib # at 2016 Race Day Photos and Ken will email you a link to your race photos when they are ready.  Your bib # is displayed on our website under 2015 Participant listings.   

NEW:  The inaugural DMRF 5K will be held Saturday May 7 at 8:30 am at the park.  You may sign up that morning, or take advantage of a registration discount coming your way via a separate email.  Come shake things out before the race at the new DMRF 5K.   Benefits the Arthur J Turner, Jr. Scholarship Foundation.  Sponsored by the City of Wilmington Parks & Recreation Department!

Come hang on Sunday and listen to live music by Blue Cat Blues at the new NKS Stage from 10:30 to 12:30 on race day.  

Our family friendly Run 1, 4 Fun! is back, Saturday May 7 at 10:30am.  Join 800 elementary aged school kids who will be completing their own marathons by running their last mile from our START to our FINISH.  All FREE, thanks to our sponsors, NOVO NORDISK and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware, there is NO cost to participate.  Pre-event activities (Zumba, Tug of War, etc) begin at 9:00 a.m. at Tubman Park.   To participate, just come on down to the park and sign in.

Registration for the 2016 Delaware Marathon and Delaware Half Marathon will close at Midnight on Thursday April 28, 2016!  Registration for the 4P and 8P Relay Marathon events are now closed.  This is your last chance to sign up.  We accept no registration the week of the race.

Please note that any mailed registrations received after the field is closed will be returned.  We are accepting no further deferrals to 2017.  If you have signed up for the marathon and need to drop to the half marathon, plan on running just the first lap of the event and come down the chute with the half marathoners.  You will receive a HM time and HM medal.

Please note that late pricing is in effect.  Please note that any relay changes after April 30, 2016 may be subject to a $25 late change fee.

On April 10, 2016, we sent the customized data files to the printers of the race bibs and the final data files to the Wilmington Convention and Visitors Bureau for the welcome mailing.   And as your race bibs and your registration information is customized for you, we cannot allow any transfers of race bibs.  If we find that you have given your bib to someone else, you both will be disqualified and banned from future events.

The 2016 DMRF is now only 30 days away.  A couple of early announcements:

The City of Wilmington has assured us the construction on the Brandywine River millrace will be opened on race weekend.  This means we will use our preferred course which adds a mile in beautiful Brandywine Park and eliminates a mile on the Riverfront.  This course does have a U-Turn dogleg on Beech Street at Mile 1 and enters the Christina River Walk by making a hard left turn at the large smokestack between Shipyard Shops buildings 2 & 3.

All runners (except the 8P Relay runners – who will turn around at the end of the Market Street Bridge, before entering Brandywine Park) will pass the Brandywine Zoo, cross the Van Buren Street Rose Garden intersection and proceed to the end of North Park Drive to the swinging bridge before returning to S. Park Drive via the Brandywine River millrace jogging path.  Note: the 4P Relay turnaround is just beyond the Lovering Avenue bridge on S. Park Drive Extension before the Augustine Cutoff bridge overpass.  (If you’ve reached the lower end of Kentmere Parkway, you’ve gone too far).  Also, please note the Lap 2 Marathon turnaround is just beyond the end of the Shipyard Shops on the Riverwalk.

The marathon and half marathon will start together at 7AM SHARP.  NEW: The Relays will start together at 7:05am from the Relay Transition parking lot.     :

The City of Wilmington will enforce the 1:00 pm re-opening of the course.  Marathon runners who expect to run slower than 6:15 hours may utilize our 45 minute (6:15 am) early marathon start.  This early start is ONLY for marathon runners who expect to finish in over 6:15 hours.  It is not for half marathon or relay runners or for runners who want to finish early.  Early start runners MUST agree to stay behind the 6hr 15min pacer for the first two miles of the course.  Instructions on the early start will be sent only to those who have provided us with an estimated finishing of greater than 6 hours.  Note: All runners will be allowed to finish the marathon, even after the course is re-opened at 1pm.  We will leave the timing equipment on for you and will have your medal and meal waiting for you.

if you are a marathon runner, and you have not yet done so, please provide us with your emergency contact info and any medical info that we should know about.   Finally, if you must be shuttled to the START, please let us know.  A simple Reply to this email is the easiest way to get me this type of information.

We strongly suggest you plan to pick up your race packet on Saturday at our expo or send someone to do so for you.  This year packet pickup will open at 10AM on Saturday and close at 6PM.  We will not be able to hand out packets on Friday. While we will have “day of” early morning packet pickup starting at 5:30 am, we simply cannot process large numbers of runners on Sunday.  FYI: We hand out all 4 or all 8 relay packets to the first member of your relay team who claims them.  We do NOT hand out individual relay packets.  Please arrange to have someone get your packet, if you cannot do so on Saturday!

Due to the large number of late changes; runner replacements; and missing information that require extra time to process, (frankly when we have other things we must do) there may be a $25 charge for processing relay team runner replacements; event transfers; and other changes received after April 17.  So, please check the accuracy and completeness of your information on our 2016 Participant pages now and Reply to us with any corrections.

Due to small size of Tubman Park and the overwhelming demand to use the Delaware Marathon Running Festival event footprint as an opportunity to picnic, there can be no placement of pop-up tents in Tubman Park without the express written permission of the race organizers.

This year’s SWAG will include your gender specific tech shirt; a runner’s hat; a pint glass; a cinch sack, access to digital photos, a wonderful post-race meal, a beer garden, and a champagne tent; live music, cold, fresh  chocolate milk, a digital event program; and for marathoners and half marathoners, upgraded finisher medals; customized race bibs; and the ability to print your own finisher certificates!
