START & FINISH
Saturday’s Pre-Race and Sunday Race Morning packet pick up will be under the large registration tent located at Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park in downtown Wilmington next to the AMTRAK station. Directions.
If you already claimed your race packet before race day, you need not check in at registration on the morning of the event.
You may wear your sweat suits or warm-ups to the starting area. Bring your own duffel or running bag and use our luggage tags to label it with your bib number. We will store it for you in our large rental truck parked behind the registration tent until the end of the event. NOTE: While this area is staffed, we cannot be held responsible for lost, stolen, or mislabeled items.
There will be 35 portable toilets near the Start / Finish line. There will be Water, Gatorade, and pre-race “carbs” outside the hospitality tent beginning at 5:45 am on race day. There will also be Water and Gatorade in the Finish Line chutes, at the Relay Transition area, and along Rosa Parks Drive throughout the day.
NEW: The Marathon and the Half Marathon will start PROMPTLY at 7 a.m. The Relay Marathon races will follow PROMPTLY at 7:15 am. Please line up according to your expected pace. There is no need to crowd up front as we have purposely limited the number of participants in each event, so that each participant has the opportunity for a clean start and an unencumbered path throughout the race.
To prevent cheating (yes, it happens!) all runners will be required to cross timing mats that have been strategically placed throughout the course.
All runners are to wear their numbers on the front of their shirts / shorts. For identification and competitive reasons, the Relay Marathon and Half Marathon runners are to also wear a special “RELAY” or “HALF” tag on the back of their shirts. To aid in the identification of the runners, each race will be color coded. The Marathon will have Orange bibs. The Half Marathoners will have Green bibs. The 4P Relay Marathon runners will have Yellow bibs. The new 8P Relay Marathon runners will have Baby Blue bibs. The general course markings will be in Orange spray chalk. However, where the half marathoners, relay marathoners, or marathoners runners need special instructions, the course markings in those areas will contain the colors specific to the event.
As you return to the Riverfront on S. King Street and turn right onto MLK Blvd, runners will be directed into one of three coned lanes. The left lane will be marked Green for the Half Marathoners; the middle lane will be marked Orange & Blue for the Relay Runners, and the right (outside) lane will be marked Yellow for the Marathoners. The marathoners will continue towards the Riverfront Market to begin their second lap.
As you complete your event. The marathon and half marathon runners will turn left onto Rosa Parks Drive and enter the finish line chute. The Relay Runners stay outside the chute and will be directed into the Tubman Garrett parking lot and the Relay “Transition Area”, where they will exchange their timing chip with their team mates.
After your race is fully completed, you will be channeled to the areas where there is Water and Gatorade. If you need medical attention, it will be provided by our medical team who will have volunteers in the finish line chutes and relay transition area. Marathon and half marathon runners will also receive their finishing medal in the finishing chute.
Afterwards, you may present your race number to claim your hospitality meal in our hospitality tent. We have planned for only one hospitality meal per runner, so please be respectful of our hospitality volunteers. Our hospitality tent will open at 8:45am and will remain open throughout the day.
If you need a ride back to downtown Wilmington, please email us. We have arranged for a Christiana Care Shuttle van to transport runners from the event site to downtown Wilmington after the race
Showers will be available after the event at the Central YMCA, Eleventh & Washington Streets in Wilmington (302-571-6900). Please show your runner number for entry. The Central YMCA is only a several block walk from the official host hotels. Bring lock and towel. Directions
