2009 Delaware Half Marathon - (13.1 Mile) Course Description

 

 

LAP 1 = 13.1 MilesSTART LINE is on Rosa Parks Drive, adjacent to the entrance of the parking lot to Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park. Proceed across S. Market Street and to the right around the Riverfront Market/ING DIRECT office building.  Make a left onto Water Street and proceed to S. West Street.  Make a left onto S. West Street and proceed to S. Justison Street.  Make a left onto S. Justison Street and proceed to Dravo Plaza.  Cross Dravo Plaza in front of the Shipyard Shops and proceed to the end of the shops. 

 

Make a left at the far end of the Shipyard Shops and proceed around the buildings. Turn left onto the Wilmington Riverwalk.  Proceed to the end of the first section of the Riverwalk.  Make a right and cross S. Market Street.  At the entrance to the surface parking lot at Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park, make a right and then an immediate left onto the second section of the Riverwalk.  Continue to the end of the Riverwalk, making a left between the EDiS and Amtrak buildings onto N. Poplar Street.

 

On N. Poplar Street, proceed one block to E. Front Street. Make a right onto E. Front Street and run past Christina River Park to E. Fourth Street.  Make a left onto E. Fourth Street and run back towards N. Walnut Street. Make a right into the WHA Apartment parking lot and proceed one block to N. Walnut Street.  Make a right onto N. Walnut Street and proceed in the right lane of N. Walnut Street across town to E. 16th Street.  

 

Making a left onto the left lane of E. 16th Street, staying to the left of the road island, cross the N. Market Street bridge.  After crossing the bridge, make a left onto N. Park Drive and proceed into Brandywine Park, heading past the Brandywine Zoo, across N. Van Buren Street, to the end of N. Park Drive at Brandywine Park Condominiums.  Make a hard left and carefully cross the swinging wooden foot bridge, and turn left again onto the jogging path which parallels S. Park Drive.  Follow the jogging path until the jogging path exit at N. Adams Street.  Make a 180 degree right turn onto N. Adams Street and proceed along the winding road to Lovering Avenue.

 

Make a right onto Lovering Avenue and proceed to Kentmere Parkway.  Make a right onto Kentmere Parkway.  Proceed on Kentmere Parkway towards the Delaware Art Museum.  Before the Delaware Art Museum, make a left onto N. Bancroft Parkway and proceed on N. Bancroft Parkway, across Delaware Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue.  A few blocks later make a right into the Wawaset Park neighborhood at W. Eleventh Street.  Proceed on W. Eleventh Street to Blackshire Road.  Make a right onto Blackshire Road to Nottingham Road.  Make a left onto Nottingham Road to McDonough Road.  Make a left onto McDonough Road to Blackshire Road.  Make a right onto Blackshire Road and return to W. Eleventh Street.  Make a right back onto W. Eleventh Street and proceed back to N. Bancroft Parkway.    

 

Make a right back onto N. Bancroft Parkway and proceed to W. Ninth Street.  Make a left onto W. Ninth Street and proceed to N. Union Street.  Make a right onto N. Union Street and proceed to W. Fourth Street. Make a left onto W. Fourth Street one block to N. Lincoln Street.  Make a left onto N. Lincoln Street and proceed back to W. Ninth Street.  Make a left onto W. Ninth Street, crossing N. Union Street, over the bridge, and back to N. Bancroft Parkway. 

 

Making a right onto N. Bancroft Parkway, cross Pennsylvania Avenue and Delaware Avenue and return to Kentmere Parkway.  Make a right onto Kentmere Parkway to Lovering Avenue. Make a left on Lovering Avenue to S. Park Drive.  Make a left onto S. Park Drive, crossing N. Van Buren Street to King Street.  Make a right onto the left lane of N. King Street.  Proceed on N. King Street past Rodney Square to MLK Boulevard.  Make a right onto MLK Boulevard, proceed one block, and turn left onto S. Market Street.  Proceed under the AMTRAK overpass and immediately turn left into the FINISH LINE chutes at the entrance to Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park.
