Delaware Running Festival Status Update

We have received an interim decision from the city of Wilmington that our permit application for this year’s Delaware Running Festival unfortunately has been denied. Local authorities have pledged to continue to monitor key COVID metrics and allow us to run live if changes to those metrics allow us safely to host our event on April 24-25.

We remain hopeful as local conditions improve that our application and proposed mitigation steps will be reconsidered for hosting a live event April 24-25. Please be aware that if the event does occur on April 24-25 race logistics will be modified to fit state health regulations. We will continue to communicate with state health regulators and await their future guidance.

We understand participants need to plan and finalize their travel in advance for various reasons. If we are not permitted to run on April 24-25, we will plan to run the race live on a date (TBA) in late May or early June. Our final decision about hosting a live running festival will be announced no later than April 1.

Please CLICK HERE to learn more about your various options.

March 3, 2021

As spring quickly approaches, we are all anxious to return to in-person running events. We are encouraged by positive trends such as the steady decline in the coronavirus positivity rate, the weekly increase in national vaccine distribution efforts, and local professional teams allowing fans in the stands for the upcoming season.

We have had discussions with key groups to present our additional mitigation steps to comply with COVID-19 guidelines for a safe outdoor event. For example, one proposed major adjustment includes the introduction of wave starts to promote socially distanced participation while on the course.

If we run live, we will move the 5K to a twilight event with wave starts on Saturday, April 24 to stretch the event over two days and further promote social distancing. If you have registered for that distance, or are waiting to register for it, please note the date change.

We remain hopeful that we will be permitted to run live but still do not have the necessary confirmations from the city. That said, we are determined to stay the course. We’ll provide immediate updates of the festival’s permit application status as soon as decisions are made by key parties. Thank you for your patience and support of the Delaware Running Festival.

Race Status Registration Options

We understand participants need to plan and finalize their travel in advance for various reasons. If we are not permitted to run on April 24-25, we will plan to run the race live on a date (TBA) in late May or early June. Our final decision about hosting a live running festival will be announced no later than April 1.  Your options at this time are:

OPTION 1: KEEP YOUR REGISTRATION ACTIVE (NO ACTION REQUIRED)

  • If you want to wait along with us to see if we are running live- there is currently nothing that you need to do on your end. Once we have confirmation of the status of our race, we will reach out if there is any action needed.  We will have a decision by April 1.

OPTION 2:  GO VIRTUAL!

  • If you are already signed up for the virtual race, no action is needed.
  • If you are registered to run live but now wish to run virtually, you can transfer your 2021 race entry into a Virtual Run.  You can run the distance you registered for on your own and we will ship your race shirt and medal.
  • To choose the virtual option, follow these steps:
    • Log into RunSignup and go to your profile: https://runsignup.com/Profile
    • Under the Upcoming Events section, click MANAGE REGISTRATION next to your Delaware Running Festival Registration
    • Click TRANSFER EVENT tab
    • You can confirm Transfer by clicking on the “Start Transfer” button.

  • Here is a tutorial with more information on how to change your event: https://bit.ly/3tBE3K1
  • NOTE: The race premium shipping timeline will be adjusted.  While we will do our best to ship them out in a timely fashion, do not expect to get your gear prior to the scheduled race day.
  • Those running virtually will receive a follow up email with further instructions on submitting virtual times.  We will set a deadline to complete your virtual run once the reschedule date is confirmed.
  • If you paid to have your packet mailed to you and you are now deferring your entry, you will receive a separate email after April 1 with details on this process.
  • If you select to run virtually but decide later to run live or defer, please email [email protected]  and we will assist with your change.

OPTION 3: DEFER MY REGISTRATION (ACTION REQUIRED)

  • If you decide not to wait to see if we are running live, you can defer your entry until next year’s event to be held in Spring of 2022.
  • We have waved our normal deferral fee for the 2021 race.  This option is currently available online. Once a new date is confirmed we will set a deferral deadline which will be no earlier than April 11 (or 2 weeks prior to any live race date).
  • To complete your deferral, follow these steps:
    • Log into RunSignUp and go to your profile: https://runsignup.com/Profile
    • Under the Upcoming Events section, click MANAGE REGISTRATION next to your Delaware Running Festival Registration
    • Click the DEFER REGISTRATION tab
    • Click the CONFIRM DEFERRAL button
  • Here is a tutorial with more information on how to defer: https://bit.ly/3bgYXo6
  • If you paid to have your packet mailed to you and you are now deferring your entry, you will receive a separate email after April 1 with details on this process.
  • If you defer and later decide you want to run either virtually or live, please email [email protected] and we will assist with your change.

Per our policy which every runner agrees to during the online registration process, CSE does not offer registration refunds.

OTHER SCENARIOS:

  • If you are a Big Freakin’ Deal participant and wondering how this impacts you, please look for an email from us after the April 1 announcement. Remember you can run live or virtually and remain eligible for the BFD.
  • If you have previously deferred your entry, but now wish to participate in the VIRTUAL RUN or on the rescheduled date please email [email protected] and we will assist with your change.
  • If you have previously deferred your entry, and that remains your desire, no action is required on your part.

It is our hope that these options will satisfy every runner. Our staff has worked diligently with city services and key vendors to avoid canceling this year’s running festival. The day is too important to the Wilmington community and will continue to do everything within our means to make it still happen.

Please be safe.

Corrigan Sports Announces “Worry Free Registration”

Let’s be honest– 2020 sucked. Both race participants and race organizers had their world — and everything they love about it — torn apart. Corrigan Sports is grateful for the running community for sticking by us in 2020 and making the best of a very tough situation.

Corrigan Sports is committed to the safety of our participants as we navigate through this unprecedented time as we look ahead to next year’s schedule. Rest assured, Corrigan Sports will do everything we can to put the safety of our participants, volunteers, fans and our staff as the top priority while monitoring the status of Covid-19 and heeding advice from local and state health officials.

As we look forward to 2021, we know that we need to provide you with a level of comfort when registering early. An organization such as Corrigan Sports cannot survive without race registration income. And early registrations help to cover things such as permits, staffing, rent and other race related expenses that are due long before race day.  That is why we are offering Worry-Free Registration for 2021.

It is our plan to host live events in 2021 under the guideline and precautions of local and state governments and do everything we can to make these events as safe for everyone. We are committed to putting extra safety protocols in place to ensure your safety and give you flexible options when registering with us.

  • Masks and social distancing requirements, alternate packet pick up options, staggered starts, and limited field sizes are all things that will be considered as the situation warrants.
  • If you register to run the live spring 2021 events and we are unable to host a live event, or you decide you are not comfortable participating, there will be NO DEFEREMENT FEE.
  • Live participants will be given the option to have their race bibs mailed to them in order to limit travel and personal exposure. All you have to do is cover the postage and handling fees.
  • We are also offering a virtual only option for all distances for those who are not comfortable running with us live in 2021 but still want to participate and support our event. These registrants will receive their race premium and medal in the mail and be able to submit their times online.
  • We anticipate expenses increasing in the post-Covid world. However, we are not increasing prices in 2021.  They will remain the same as they were in 2020 as a courtesy to our loyal participants.

No matter what capacity you decide to participate in 2021, we hope to celebrate you & your accomplishments!  Please reference our FAQs for more detailed information regarding 2021 registration and policies. Check out our website at corrigansports.com to SAVE THE DATE for all of our upcoming races.

Again, we thank you for being such loyal members of our community and hope we can provide you with the first-class experience in 2021 you have become accustomed to.

Delaware RunFest Updates

UPDATE: JUNE 29

Earlier in the spring Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) made the decision to postpone the Delaware Running Festival to August 2nd with the hopes local and national key health metrics for COVID-19 would trend in a positive direction. While Delaware and surrounding states are slowly reopening, the pace of recovery is not where authorities would like it to be in order to conduct a live Delaware Running Festival with our total number of projected participants. Combined with the fact our medical provider continues to need to keep their focus on the pandemic and thus will likely not be in a position to adequately staff our event, we have made the final decision to switch this year’s festival to a virtual event. This is not the outcome any of us wanted. However, we truly feel it is the best and safest decision for everyone under the current environment.

We’ve adjusted our plans accordingly, and offer you the options to participate virtually or defer your entry to next year without incurring any additional costs:

OPTION 1: Run the Virtual Delaware Running Festival (NO ACTION REQUIRED)

  • Participate virtually by running your distance and on your own “course” at your pace on your preferred date in accordance with your local or state social distancing guidelines.
    • We will focus our efforts on our rescheduled race date of August 2 to create a bigger sense of community.
  • We’ll ship virtual participants their Under Armour shirt and race medal prior to August 2nd (no additional charge; USPS tracking # to be provided)
  • Opportunity to upload race times & participate in an online virtual experience that only Corrigan Sports can deliver.
  • Engage in social media promotions such as photo contests and trivia
  • Additional random prizes will be included in mailings such as free or discounted 2021 DRF race entries and merchandise.
  • All entrants will be switched to VIRTUAL PARTICIPANT by default (unless you choose option 2 below to defer)
  • We will send follow up emails to virtual participants to make sure we have your correct premium size and mailing address prior to shipping your packet

OPTION 2: DEFER MY REGISTRATION (ACTION REQUIRED BY JULY 7)

  • If you choose not to run the Virtual Delaware Running Festival, you can defer your entry to the Delaware Running Festival in 2021 or 2022.
  • You must make your deferment decision by July 7. There is no charge to defer.
  • Deferred entries will not receive this year’s race premiums or medal
  • To complete your deferral, follow these steps:
  • Log into RunSignup and go to your profile: https://runsignup.com/Profile

Per our policy which every runner agrees to during the online registration & waiver process with a required check box check box, CSE does not offer registration refunds.

CSE appreciates everyone’s patience and understanding as we made difficult decisions that were in the best interest of our runners and for Wilmington as a whole. Stay safe everyone.

UPDATE:  JUNE 1

We realize we have not provided any race updates for the 2020 Delaware Running Festival (DRF) in a while, so we want you to know what we’ve been doing since we last touched base.

Lee Corrigan was recently named a member of Maryland Governor Larry Hogan’s Sports Advisory group to create new safety measures for large endurance events along with professional, amateur and youth athletics in our region.   It is a honor to be included on such a prestigious committee and the insight will certainly help us in creating a safe event where, with reasonable adjustments, most runners feel comfortable running in a public setting.

Our intentions are still to conduct the Delaware RunFest on our target date, August 2. Our philosophy is to be as patient as possible. First and foremost, our first responders and local health officials remain engaged with their respective roles addressing the pandemic.   Once we receive an official go ahead, we will publish the safety steps and precautions we will implement so you can make a personal decision about your participation. We know everyone has unique concerns.  AT NO TIME WILL WE EVER JEAPORDIZE RUNNER SAFETY.

We recently mailed about 150 race packets to runners who selected the virtual option.  Those of you who did not select to run the 2020 Delaware RunFest virtually still have two options:

Reminder of your current options:

  1. KEEP YOUR REGISTRATION (no action required): If you want to run on the rescheduled date in 2020 – there is nothing that you need to do on your end. Your registration will automatically be transferred to the new date.
  2. DEFER (action required): you still have the opportunity to defer to 2021 with no transaction fee. By choosing this option you will get to run in next year’s race for free, but forfeit receiving this year’s medal and premium.

Delaware Marathon Running Festival Postponed

Delaware Marathon Running Festival Postponed

3/17/2020: As a precaution to combat the spread of COVID-19 the CDC recently issued national guidelines prohibiting events that consist of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks. As a result, the 2020 Delaware Marathon Running Festival will be RESCHEDULED.

After the new date is secured, your options will include:

  • Running the rescheduled race date
  • Deferment to 2021 (with limited timeframe of waived fees)
  • A Virtual Run

We ask for your patience as our partnering local health officials must prioritize their time to deal with the immediacy of the pandemic. We are grateful for their heroic efforts to serve their communities.

We know many of you have trained and made sacrifices for months in anticipation of a great personal accomplishment. This is an unprecedented global public health issue and we must do our part to act responsibly and protect our runners, volunteers, fans, sponsors and staff.

Per our policy, which every runner agrees to during the registration process, we do not offer refunds.
